‘Healthy’ And ‘Unhealthy’ Food Labels – Ugh!

A Post Originally Written For Instagram Towards The Start Of My Recovery:

Yesterday I ate (amongst other things): rocky road, iced Belgian bun, ice cream, magnum, cake, chocolate, trifle, crumpets and cheesy goods…

In our diet obsessed world of today, many would consider this diet ‘unhealthy’ and look upon it with horror.

However, I defy people to use the word ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’ when it comes to labelling foods.

Food is energy for our body, it helps keep us alive and allows our body to function to the best of its ability and to take us on our journey through life.

For the past decade I have survived on low calorie, low fat, low carb, diet products, salads, vegetables and fruit… all things many would consider ‘healthy’.

To be honest I am amazed on these foods that my body has kept alive for as long as it has.
This diet was far from ‘healthy’ and could very nearly have killed me… It certainly left me starved and very ill.

The foods I have eaten today while in recovery from an eating disorder are the most healthy foods I can eat. My body has years worth of energy deficit to make up for.

It needs instant energy, sugars, fats, highly processed foods and in large amounts, and this is what it draws me to eat.

It needs to rebuild lost tissues and muscles, it needs to fuel my poor starved brain and it needs to repair all the internal damage that I have inflicted on it through this eating disorder.

Don’t tell me cake, chocolate, ice cream, cheese, fats or iced buns are ‘unhealthy’…. to me this is the very picture of a fully healthy diet!
